A scarf I crocheted for Gene on the left, the scarf I’m knitting for Grant on the right.

The dark grey scarf took me forever back in December 2009 because it was made out of recycled fingering weight alpaca yarn with an E (3.5mm) hook. Basket weave is dense (made of front-post around, back-post around stitches) and doesn’t grow quickly. And then there were so many ends to sew in! Even so, I do think it was faster than knitting this scarf on 3.5mm needles.

It’s about 1/3 finished, I think, going by the length of Gene’s skinny grey scarf. Well, worse come to worse I just take it with me when we move and mail it to Grant. The big project I should be focusing on is the granny square blanket.
